SSAR at Potash Corp Skating Party
On Sunday, January 26, SSAR members provided first aid services at the Potash Corp Skating Party at the Meewasin skating rink. Despite an extremely cold day (-31 with windchill) about 250 people came out for the event. It was great to see people having so much fun, laughing as they wiped out, drinking hot chocolate, eating hotdogs and warming themselves by the fire.
Fortunately, only minimal services were required — a bandaid for a man who got a cut on his finger and warming of toes for a little girl. We warmed the girl’s toes between our hands, heated up her socks on the indoor fireplace and “flipped them like pancakes” (her words) so they didn’t get burnt and then put some toe warmers in her boots. Her assessment: “You guys rock!”
This was a great event for public exposure of SSAR and being prepared to use our first aid skills.
Hopefully it’s warmer for the Cameco Family Day Skating Party on February 17!
