I Found This For You In Orange . . .
Written by Shelley Ballard-McKinlay
At Saskatoon Search and Rescue, we love the color orange! Which resulted in the gift exchange theme for this year’s Christmas party being “I found this for you in orange.”
The idea was a big hit and there were some great gift and stocking stuffer ideas for that special SAR person in your life.
- Men’s underwear (2-pack; orange with black trim, black with orange trim; from Mark’s Work Warehouse)
- Hand/foot warmers
- Gear ties (various sizes, multiple uses!)
- Flagging tape
- Nalgene water bottle
- Paracord or paracord bracelet
- Survival bag or emergency bivy bag
-
Duct tape (especially small camping repair kit size rolls)
- Buff neck warmer
- Utensils
- Dry bags/stuff sacks
- Fox 40 pealess whistle (various models)
- Toque
- Travel mug
- Socks
- Lighter
- Light stick (snap or battery operated)
- Flint stone rod fire starter
Other useful items that may not come in orange:
- Portable charger for phone and other devices (e.g. Powerocks Magicstick or similar)
- Black Diamond ember power light flashlight (doubles as a charger)
- Items for first aid kit
- Rite in the Rain waterproof notebook
- Batteries
- Tenacious tape (comes in roll or patches)
- Thermos
- Jetboil stove (Read a SSAR member’s review.)
- Sunscreen
- Gift certificate for apps (there are so many great apps for SAR use!)
- Monocular or small binoculars
And I’m sure there’s lot of other ideas out there!
What to do if the SAR person in your life already has all these things? Consider making a monetary donation to their SAR team! It will definitely be appreciated and put to good use! Here’s SSAR’s donation page in case you feel inclined and in the Christmas spirit! 🙂
